Movement of Ugandans to and from Rwanda “remains unimpeded”
Ugandan trade minister Amelia Kyambadde has confirmed that the movement of Ugandans to and from Rwanda “remains unimpeded” as Uganda advises cargo trucks destined for Rwanda to use the Mirama Hills and Kyanika customs border posts.
The advice comes after Rwanda announced the temporary closure of the Katuna border crossing between Rwanda and Uganda. The stated reason for the closure is to allow for infrastructure upgrades to take place. However, the lack of advance notice on the closure caused chaos for a short time and increased friction between the two nations.
Rwanda has warned its citizens against travelling to Uganda over concerns for their safety, with Kigali accusing Uganda of hosting rebels that are looking to destabilise Rwanda.
