Tanzania Plans First Wind Powered Electricity

A project to deliver Tanzania’s first wind powered electricity is advancing. Miombo Hewani Wind Farm is being developed by Windlab Development Tanzania in Makambako District in Njombe region.

When complete the farm is expected to generate 300 Megawatts of power. Demand for electricity in the country it estimated to be growing by nearly 15% annually.

The projects first phase will deliver 100 Megawatts to more than one million residents, with an estimated lifespan of 25 to 30 years. Upon completion enough power will be available to serve around 3 million householders, with the power to be sold to the Tanzania Electricity Supply Company (TANESCO).
