Roebuck, Komagum inspire City Oilers to NBL Finals

City Oilers 70-67 Rezlife Saints (3-0)

City Oilers secured a hard-fought 70-67 victory against Rezlife Saints in the National Basketball League encounter at Lugogo Indoor Arena on Friday evening.

With that victory, Oilers swept the Saints in the best-of-five semifinal NBL Playoffs to set up the highly anticipated final against Namuwongo Blazers.

Germaine Vashon Roebuck and Jonathan Komagum were very instrumental as the City Oilers won game three in front of a large crowd.

Jonathan Komagum recorded a double-double, scoring 11 points and pulling down 15 rebounds in a massive show on both ends of the court.

In the same spirit, Roebuck dropped a game-high 22 points, with Joel Kayira (15 points), Joel Lukoji (11 points, and Fayed Baale (11 points) also contributing for the Oilers in double digits.

On the other hand, Chris Omanye (15 points), Edrine Ekau (15 points), Michael Otieno (10 points), and Hon Kwany (10 points) led the Saints’ scoring chart in double digits.

The record champions came into the game with a commanding 2-0 lead, knowing any kind of victory would take them to the final, while for Rezlife it was all about delaying the inevitable.

The Lubowa-based side placed the foot on the gas pedal as they opened up a healthy 38-28 lead going into the long break.

Coming from the halftime break, the Oilers rectified their defensive errors, thus levelling the game 52-52 at the end of the third quarter.

It was a nail-biting finish to the game as the two sides went into the final minute of the game with a chance for a win since the scoreboard read 68-67 in favour of the Oilers.

However, Germain Roebuck made an easy layup before Michael Otieno failed to convert either of the two chances beyond the paint.

At the end of the encounter, the Oilers secured a victory and will lock horns with Nam Blazers in the final.
