WAFCON 2026: Cameroon edge Ghana to all but seal quarterfinal berth

Cameroon edged closer to booking a slot in the knockout phase of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations after overcoming Ghana in their second group game on Sunday in Casablanca.

The Indomitable Lionesses made it two wins in as many games in Group D by defeating Ghana 1-0. It should be noted that they won their first game 2-1 against Mali.

Marie Ngah Manga scored the lone goal of the game to guide Cameroon to victory. This was her third of the tournament.

The decisive moment arrived in the 19th minute after a VAR review awarded Cameroon a penalty. Manga was able to convert the resultant penalty to fire the Indomitable Lionesses into the lead.

Cameroon thereafter opted to go defensive and frustrated Ghana for the rest of the game.

Ghana thought they had levelled matters with ten minutes to go when substitute Evelyn Badu put the ball into the back of the net, but her goal was ruled out for offside after a VAR review.

The result means Cameroon are close to securing a slot in the quarterfinals with six points after two games.

Cameroon will take on Cape Verde in their final group game on Thursday. On the same day, Ghana will face Cape Verde.
