Military, Protestors Resume Talks In Sudan

Negotiations between the ruling military council in Sudan and an alliance of opposition and protest groups are scheduled to resume in Khartoum later today.

After progress was announced last week in the agreement of the process for transitioning to a civilian led administration, they were subsequently suspended following concerns regarding the security situation and the insistence by the military that protestors remove roadblocks.

The talks are expected to focus on the composition of the governing body to replace the Transitional Military Council (TMC) and tasked with overseeing the transition. It has already been agreed that the transition period will last for three years and that a 300-member parliament will include two-thirds representation from the opposition protestors group.

Protestors continue their sit-in by the army’s headquarters and have threatened to put up more roadblocks should the military refuse to hand over power.
