Ugandan Government Delays District Elections

The Government of Uganda has delayed elections for new districts on the basis that it lacks the funds to go ahead as planned.

The decision has been criticised by some MPs who raised concerns that new districts have been created without sufficient planning and resources.

Six new districts were created in 2015, becoming operations in July 2018. However, elections are yet to take place despite the constitutional obligation for political leadership and representation.
