South Sudan To Name Corrupt Officials
South Sudan’s tax authority has threatened to publicly name and shame officials that steal tax revenue.
Authority commissioner Olympio Attipoe claims that there are still some corrupt tax officials that are redirecting funds into their personal accounts as the body drives to increase collection rates. He has further accused them of conspiring with commercial bank operators.
Attipoe has attributed a fall in tax collection between January and February of this year in part to tax evasion.
He has issued a stark warning to those who are complicit, stating, “Put your house in order because very soon we are going to crack the whip and no bank is going to be immune.”
He further advised that officials who want to be rich should go into business rather than pocketing public funds.
