Uganda’s NRM Opts For Queue Voting
The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) in Uganda has opted do use queue voting for its primary elections, rather than a secret ballot.
Under the system voters will line up behind the candidates according to their preference.
The decision was made by the NRM’s Central Executive Committee (CEC), which is the highest organ within the party and is chaired by President Yoweri Museveni. It was taken on the basis that the secret ballot was considered to be open to abuse, as well as a way to reduce costs with the party hoping that the adoption of a transparent system will reduce the incidence of contested outcomes.
