President Magufuli Orders Port Container Release

President John Magufuli has instructed the release of 56 containers held at the port in Dar es Salaam. The containers were holding equipment to be used for government projects, including the construction of a ship and rehabilitation of two others.

Giving the authorities one week to sort out issues regarding tax exemptions, President Magufuli issued the directive as he toured Mwanza South Port. During the visit the President expressed concern regarding projects that have stalled at the facility. 

Acting chief engineer for ship renovation Mr Abel Gwanafyo has indicated that the ships would be completed by March 2020, with 35 per cent of the new ship already constructed and more than 330 containers of steel expected to arrive from South Korea in September.
