Uganda Premier League TOP FOUR: club-by-club guide to transfer business so far and what they need
The transfer window is still ongoing in Uganda with the top four from last season all having done some business so far.
As per the Fufa Super 8, the new season promises to be more competitive and exciting with over 4-6 clubs expected to challenge for honours.
Here, we look at the transfer business so far at the top four clubs and where we think they need to strengthen before the season officially starts on August 28.
Vipers
For once, Vipers have created space for incomings by letting go of over eight first team players let go.
First, the champions got in a new coach in Denis Lavagne and has had time with his squad and got some tests with in the Cecafa Kagame Cup.
With the latest departure of Rogers Torach, it is clear that the club needs a replacement at centre back with Lavagne understood to be looking at a left footed player in the position.
Major ins: Farouk Miya, Ceaser Manzoki (Free agents), Loyce Marius Mbaba (Stella Club d’Ajame), Jacques Mangoba (AS Simba), Joel Sserunjogi (KCCA), Nicholas Mwere (BUL)
Major outs: Bashir Ssekagya, Alfred Mudekereza, Livingstone Mulondo (Lugazi), Grant Matsiko (Entebbe UPPC), Robin Kane Hney, Nicholas Wadada, Taddeo Lwanga (AFC Leopards), Frank Katongole (BUL)
KCCA
It all started with restructuring in the technical team with Bria Ssenyondo handed full reigns relegating Jackson Nelly Magera to first assistant head coaching role.
In the same breaths, youthful coaches Sakka Mpiima and Habib Kavuma have been left to concentrate on the youth side and scouting.
Transfer wise, this could be arguably the best window KCCA have had in a long time with all the possible additions looking ready to make an upgrade on the squad.
The acquisition of Ibrahim Kasule, Charles Lwanga and Yunus Sibira could be the game changers.
As of now, KCCA’s only weakness appears to be the defensive midfield role but reports that they are closing in on Geoffrey Wasswa explains the need to fill the void.
Major ins: Ibrahim Kasule (New York Red Bulls II), Yunus Sibira & Maxwell Owachigiu (Kitara), Elvis Ngonde & Charles Lwanga (SC Villa), Brian Jjara (on loan), Rogers Torach (CS Constantine)
Major outs: Gavin Kizito, Peter Magambo, Umar Lutalo (BUL), Joel Sserunjogi (Vipers), Joao Gabriel, Ivan Ahimbisibwe, Rogers Mugisha, Derrick Nsibambi, Sharif Ssengendo, Charles Lukwago, Steven Oyirwoth
SC Villa
The record league champions have traded experience for potential with the arrivals and outgoings showing that direction.
The departures of Charles Lwanga, Hassan Mubiru and Misi Diego Ssemugera will hurt unless the new arrivals settle in easily as soon as possible.
Add that to the void left by captain David Owori at right back where the club at the moment has only youngster Andrew Okumu and Villa could be in for a long season.
Major ins: Steven Mugisha (Bulemeezi Ssaza), Isaac Gumperom (Young Elephants), Tony Zuzu Asiku (Arua Airfield), Hassan Matovu (Maroons), John Asiimwe (Express)
Major outs: Charles Lwanga, Elvis Ngonde (KCCA), Norman Angunfidru (Kigezi Home Boyz), Misi Diego Ssemugera (Kitara), Jean Brady Wokorach (BUL), Ali Bayo (Police), Hassan Mubiru (Azam)
Kitara
Wasswa Bbosa has re-united with most of his trusted generals from the past as he looks to build a team that will compete on all fronts including the Caf Confederation Cup.
Experience wise, maybe only Vipers comes close to what Kitara has at disposal in all departments and they look ready to challenge for trophies this season.
Major ins: Karim Ndugwa, Jerome Kiirya (BUL), Misi Diego Ssemugera (SC Villa), Jackson Ssembatya (NEC), Christopher Bonny (Ghana), Nicholas Kasozi, Ivan Akera (Al Hilal Juba), Joel Mutakubwa (Wolwalo Adigrat), Martin Kiiza
Major outs: James Alitho, Aziz Saleh, Yunus Sibira (KCCA), Muhammad Shaban, Sadiq Ssekyembe, Amir Kakomo, Frank Kasumba, Eric Tumwine.
With that transfer business, which of the club has so far done the best business in the market?
