Algeria Humble Zambia in ACN Qualifiers

2012 African Cup of Nations winners Zambia were humiliated by Algeria as they conceded 5 goals in their Group H qualifying match yesterday.

The win sees the Desert Foxes extend their unbeaten run to 17 games, having not lost a match since they played Benin in October 2018.

Baghdad Bounedjah netted two including a 68-minute penalty, alongside Youcef Belaili, El Arbi Soudani and Bounedjah again, as Zambia’s defence disintegrated against Algeria’s unrelenting attack.

Elsewhere in Group G, Egypt were held to a 1-1 draw by Kenya, who were without injured striker Mohamed Salah, who’s currently receiving treatment with the squad.

They took the lead thanks to a poor back pass from Eric Ouma just before the half time break, which was latched onto by Mahmoud ‘Kahraba’ Abdel-Moneim, who passed the ball into an empty net.

Kenya cancelled out that first half goal through Michael Olunga after goalkeeper El Shenawy and defender Ahmed Fathi got in each other’s way trying to clear the ball.

In yesterday’s Group A fixture Mali and Guinea drew 2-2, whilst Ghana came out on top of South Africa 2-0.

DR Congo and Gabon finished goalless in the Group D fixture, and in Group F Mozambique looked comfortable in their 2-0 win over Rwanda.

But the biggest shock of the night came in Group G, where Comoros recorded a surprising 0-1 victory against Togo away from home.
