Museveni and Kagame shake hands at border
The Presidents of Uganda and Rwanda, Yoweri Museveni and Paul Kagame, have met at the Gatuna border between their countries in a further effort to normalise relations.
The pair were photographed shaking hands as negotiations got underway to discuss an extradition treaty that would allow the respective nations to exchange criminals.
Also present at the meeting was João Lourenço and Félix Tshisekedi, the presidents of Angola and the Democratic Republic of Congo, who have been making efforts to broker the deal.
The handshake was a symbolic gesture demonstrating the desire for both sides to move on from their quarrel.
Steps have already been taken to ease tensions: Rwanda recently released 20 Ugandans who had served their sentences for various crimes, including illegally crossing into the country.
Whilst Uganda released 13 prisoners accused of espionage and other related security offences.
