Uganda, Rwanda Move To Mend Relations

Presidents Yoweri Museveni of Uganda and Paul Kagame of Rwanda have moved to mend relations between the two countries between a quadripartite summit held jointly with Angola and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Relations between Rwanda and Uganda have appeared to deteriorate recently, aggravated by a border conflict at the Katuna crossing, which Rwanda closed in February.

Following lengthy closed door meetings the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Angola, where the meeting was held, issued a joint statement setting out that the presidents had agreed to "prioritise the resolution of any dispute between their respective countries by peaceful means through conventional channels and in the Spirit of African brotherhood and solidarity."

The resolution of the dispute is seen as critical for regional trade, which has suffered from the border closure in recent months.
