Sudan Protestors Call Off Negotiations

The protestor alliance in Sudan, the Declaration of Freedom and Change Force (DFCF), has called off negotiations with the Transitional Military Council (TMC) following the deaths of several civilians.

Talks regarding a transition to a civilian-led administration have been underway for several weeks, with army leaders and protestors in Sudan previously announcing an agreement regarding a three year transition period. The announcement represented a compromise between the timeline preferred by military generals of two years, and the four years requested by the protestors, who have been represented in the talks by the Alliance for Freedom and Change.

Negotiations were brought to a halt on Monday, however, following the deaths of at least 13 protestors outside the army headquarters in Khartoum. Reports of security forces firing inside the East Nile Hospital are also circulating, with the Central Committee of Sudanese Doctors citing a large number of critical casualties.

The TMC has denied accusations that is has dispersed protestors using force. Meanwhile, the Sudan Professionals Association has also called for a campaign of civil disobedience.
