ICC Calls For Bashir Transfer To Hague

The International Criminal Court (ICC) has called for former Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir to be transferred to The Hague in order to answer charges relating to atrocities in Darfur.

While Bashir has been indicted by the ICC, along with several of his top officials, the ruling Transitional Military Council (TMC) has stated that it will leave the decision of whether to transfer the former President to a civilian government.

Earlier this week Bashir appeared for the first time in public before the prosecutor to face corruption charges.

Bashir has been detained in Kober prison, in the capital of Khartoum, since he was deposed by a military coup in April of this year that was prompted by a wave of popular protests calling for his resignation.

Shortly after he was deposed the military uncovered around $100 million in cash at Bashir’s home. The former president faces charges of possessing foreign currency, corruption and receiving gifts illegally, and has also been charged with involvement in killing protestors.
