Ugandan Opposition Figures Unite
Two major opposition figures in Uganda have announced their intention to work together to unseat incumbent President Yoweri Museveni in the next elections scheduled for 2021.
Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi and veteran opposition leader and presidential candidate Dr Kizza Besigye say they have agreed to join forces, releasing a shared statement confirming the development.
"We took note that we are on the same mission to free Uganda from dictatorship and oppression. We agreed that despite belonging to different formations/fronts, we must work together as partners on the same mission," Kyagulanyi and Besigye write.
The leaders have stopped short of uniting their political movements, however, and have stated their intention to continue working on different activities in addition to their collaboration, while continuing discussion with other opposition forces.
