Sudan TMC To Publish Draft Constitution
The Transitional Military Council (TMC) in Sudan has announced plans to publish a draft constitution, as it continues negotiations regarding a prospective joint military-civilian council. The African Union (AU) last week gave the TMC 60 days in which to handover power to a civilian-led body.
The TMC’s proposed constitution differs from the version proposed by activists and opposition groups, however it is not yet clear what the exact differences between the proposals are. Disagreements over the composition of a joint council to oversee the path to elections also continue.
Protestors remain sceptical that the TMC will hand over power. Meanwhile, former President Omar al-Bashir is being detained in a federal prison, where he is facing questions concerning large amounts of foreign currency found at his home.
