US Pledges Support For DRC Government

During a visit by recently elected President of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) Felix Tshisekedi to the US the country’s Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has expressed his support for the new Government’s “change agenda.”

Following a meeting between President Tshisekedi and Pompeo, the US Secretary of State welcomed the initiative to tackle issues such as corruption, human rights and security.

While the US Government has not challenged President Tshisekedi’s election they recently sanctioned a number of electoral officials in connection with fraud and corruption allegations relating to the December 2018 polls.
