Kenya And Somalia Work To Repair Ties

The Governments of Kenya and Somalia are working to repair ties following an ongoing dispute concerning maritime borders.  

The matter is before the International Court of Justice (ICJ). However, tensions were recently increased when Kenya accused Somalia of auctioning disputed oil blocks to investors earlier this year. 

Following a meeting between Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary for Kenya Monica Juma and Somalia’s Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Ahmed Isse Awad on Wednesday, Juma confirmed that the country’s respective Ambassadors will now be returning to their posts having been recalled during the dispute.

The ICJ is expected to hear the case starting in September 2019.
