Heads of State Attend Macky Sall Inauguration

President Kagame of Rwanda is among those leaders from the region to this week attend the inauguration of Senegalese President Macky Sall.

DRC President Felix Tshisekedi and Ethiopian President Sahle Work Zwede were also in attendance, as well as a further 12 heads of state. 

President Sall was re-elected for a second term in February with 58 per cent of the vote. The country’s constitution includes a two-term limit to the presidency, meaning it will be his last term in office.

The ceremony was held in Diamniadio instead of Dakar. Diamniadio is a new city 32 kilometres from the capital that was constructed as part of the government’s Plan Emerging Senegal launched in 2014.
