French President Courts East Africa
French President Emmanuel Macron is in East Africa this week, seeking to strengthen ties between his country and the region.
His itinerary began with a visit to Djibouti on Tuesday. Djibouti is a former French colony and home to a French military base. He then proceeded to Ethiopia where he is due to attend a state dinner.
President Macron is also scheduled to meet with African Union (AU) leaders, and on Thursday will visit Kenya where he will attend the One Planet Summit, an event he launched in December 2017. It will be the first time a French president has visited the East African nation.
