Uganda’s IGG Requests Cosase Bribery Investigation

Inspector General of Government Irene Mulyagonja has requested an investigation into allegations of bribery concerning MPs sitting on Parliament’s Committee on Commissions, Statutory Authorities and State Enterprises (Cosase).

The request was submitted to the Internal Security Organisation (ISO) following a complaint by a whistleblower in which various allegations were made.

These include allegations that committee members regularly met with and received cash payments from the former owner of Crane Bank Limited (CBL) Sudhir Ruparelia. Ruparelia’s son Ranjiv is also mentioned by name.

The whistleblower is also reported as alleging that the close relationship with Ruparelia was behind the reluctance of the committee’s leadership to yield their positions when the term ended. They also accuse Cosase committee chair Abdu Katuntu of receiving bribes from central bank governor Emmanuel Tumuslime Mutebile.
