Uganda: Fire in Seeta Disrupts Traffic On Kampala-Jinja Highway

Traffic along the busy Kampala-Jinja Highway was on Wednesday morning heavily disrupted after a fire gutted a timber-filled building in Seeta, near Mogas petrol station.

The incident prompted police to divert motorists to alternative routes as firefighting teams rushed to contain the blaze.

Traffic Police spokesperson Michael Kananura said the fire had significantly affected movement along the stretch between Namanve, near the Coca-Cola plant, and Seeta.

"A fire has gutted a building (containing timber) in Seeta near Mogas petrol station. Police diverted motorists to alternative routes as firefighting efforts continue," he said in a traffic advisory.

He further warned motorists to avoid the affected section due to heavy congestion and ongoing emergency operations.

"The stretch from Namanve (Coca-Cola area) to Seeta is heavily affected and should be avoided," he added.

Police guided motorists to use alternative routes depending on their direction of travel.

Drivers moving from Mukono to Kampala were advised to use the Seeta-Sonde-Namugongo route into the city centre.

Those travelling from Kampala to Mukono were given two options: using the Northern Bypass through Nalya, Kyaliwajjala and Sonde to Seeta, or passing through Spear Motors, Bweyogerere and Namanve.

Despite the diversions, police cautioned that motorists should expect delays as traffic continues to build up on the alternative routes.

"Expect delays on these alternative routes. Follow traffic guidance and drive carefully as emergency teams manage the situation," Kananura said.

Firefighting teams were still at the scene by mid-morning, working to fully extinguish the blaze, while police continued to manage traffic flow in the affected areas.

No casualties had been reported by the time of publication.
