Fuel Prices Ease Up In Tanzania, Rwanda

The fuel price in Tanzania has dropped for the first time in January, with the Energy and Water Utilities Regulatory Authority (Ewura) announcing a decrease in retail and wholesale prices this week. The price drop comes as a result of a dip in world oil market prices and will apply to petrol, diesel and kerosene imported through the port of Dar es Salaam.

The price of petrol has decreased by Tsh40 per litre, while the price of diesel is down Tsh11 per litre. Prices of fuel coming through Tanga port have also declined. However, prices in Mtwara have increased.

Rwanda has also announced a slight reduction in the price for petrol and diesel. The Rwanda Utility Regulatory Agency (RURA) has announced that a litre of petrol will cost Rwf1,080, down from Rwf1,096 and a litre of diesel will cost Rwf1,072 down from Rwf1,091 effective immediately.

Meanwhile Kenyans can expect an increase in the price of petrol by 5.15 per cent as the Commissioner General of the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) announced an adjusted excise duty based on the average inflation rate for the financial year 2018/2019.
