Tanzania To Publish Mining Contracts

The Government of Tanzania intends to publish mining contracts via a publicly accessible portal in a bid to boost transparency.

The commitment was made by Minister of Minerals Doto Biteko during the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) Global Conference in Paris last month. It is line with the new EITI Standard and the Tanzania Extractive Industries Transparency and Accountability Act of 2015.

The disclosure is intended to help rebuild trust between citizens, government and mining firms and help provide accountability; with representatives facing greater incentives to ensure deals negotiated maximize the benefit to the country.

According to Minister Biteko Tanzania will receive assistance from the Natural Resource Governance Institute in order to establish the portal.
