EAC Budget Of $111 Million Tabled
The East African Community (EAC) has presented a budget of $111,450,529 to the East African Legislative Assembly this week.
The 2019/20 budget is a significant increase from the $99,770,716 allocated in 2018/19 and is themed, ‘Transforming lives through industrialisation and job creation for shared prosperity’.
Among the measures included are the consolidation of the Single Customs Territory and promotion of intra and extra EAC trade and export competitiveness, development of regional infrastructure, effective implementation of the Common Market Protocol and the enhancement of regional industrial development.
The budget includes a $53.3 million allocation for the Secretariat, $18.9 for the East African Legislative Assembly, and $4.2 million for the East African Court of Justice. It will be financed in part from partner contributions and donors including Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, DfID-UK, European Union, World Bank and Norway.
