East Africa Records Impressive Tourism Growth

Ethiopia, Rwanda and Uganda have been identified as some of the fastest growing destinations for tourism globally in the 2019 annual report from the World Travel and Tourism Council.

Tourism in Ethiopia grew by 48.6% in 2018, making it the fastest growing in the world, with Rwanda at sixth and Uganda at 12th. Rwanda and Uganda recorded growth of 13.8% and 11.3% respectively in 2018.

President Museveni of Uganda has today set to reassuring tourists that Uganda is a safe travel destination after an American tourist and her guide were kidnapped and held to ransom last week. The pair were released unharmed on Sunday. Speaking on Twitter President Museveni stated, “Last evening, security officials briefed me about the rescue of American tourist Kimberly Sue and her Ugandan guide, Jean Paul Mirenge, who had been kidnapped by criminals in Queen Elizabeth National Park… We shall deal with these isolated pockets of criminals. However, I want to reassure the country and our tourists that Uganda is safe and we shall continue to improve the security in our parks. Come and enjoy the Pearl of Africa.”
