Tanzania's Rebased Economy Includes Informal Sector

Tanzania has rebased its economy. The changes will see the informal sector included.

A number of other countries have undertaken similar moves in recent years, including in 2014 when Kenya rebased its economy prompting an increase in size of 25%.

Tanzania has rebased its economy on six occasions from 1966 onwards.

The United Nations Statistical Commission recommends that rebasing should be undertaken once every five years in order to give an accurate portrayal of economic conditions.
