Tanzania, Rwanda Negotiating Fish Exports

Tanzania and Rwanda are currently negotiating the transportation of fish by RwandAir from Mwanza airport for export. 

The agreement would provide Lake Zone fish traders will an alternative route for export, avoiding the need to use Entebbe and Nairobi airports. It is hoped that the use of Mwanza airport would lower costs.

While the government of Tanzania last year collected revenue of Sh1.7 trillion from the industry, according to the Tanzania Fisherman Union (Tafu) more than 1,000 tonnes of fish have been spoilt in recent months as a result of transport issues.
