Uganda and Tanzania Continue Pipeline Discussions
Uganda and Tanzania are this week scheduled to continue discussions regarding the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP). The 1,445km pipeline will stretch from Kabaale in Uganda to the Chongoleani peninsula in Tanzania. It is expected to boost foreign direct investment for the two counties by around 60% during the construction phase and capacity to export 216,000 barrels of crude daily.
Among the contentious issues yet to be resolved as part of the Host Government Agreements (HGAs) are thought to be arbitration, revenue sharing and taxation. They must also harmonise several pieces of legislation. Tanzania and Uganda also plan to run a joint security operation, overseen by a standing committee.
