Uganda Deports Fourth Top Executive in 2019
Uganda has deported MTN CEO Wimn Vanhelleputte on the grounds of suspicion of undermining state security. According to the police he was escorted to the airport on Thursday.
Vanhelleputte is the fourth top executive to be deported from the country this year. His departure follows that of MTN Uganda chief marketing officer Oliver Prentout, head of sales and distribution Annie Bilenge Tabura and general manager for mobile financial services Elsa Mussolini.
MTN Uganda has not appointed chief technical officer Gordian Kyomukama as the acting CEO.
Commenting on Vanhelleputte’s departure the firm stated, “We are understandably concerned about these developments and are engaging with the authorities to seek understanding that would lead us to resolving this matter.”
